Prioritizing Mental Health in Education

Firstly, Happy New Year (covers face). I feel like a prodigal daughter returning back 😂.

This year has been a lot! We're just 3 months in and it feels like everyone is already over it.

I've been feeling more overwhelmed personally and a bit burnt out. I've been on a journey of prioritizing my mental wellbeing no matter what. I guard it so jealously.

In fact it is what compelled me to write this piece.

As an organization, we understand the significance mental health plays in education. Not only is it crucial in a student's academic performance and social interactions, but overall well-being.

Ways these play out are:

  • Improved academic performance: They can focus, learn, and retain information better.

  • Better relationships: It helps them build and maintain healthy relationships with peers and/or teachers.

  • Increased resilience: By developing coping skills, they can better handle challenges and setbacks.

  • Reduced risk of dropout: Addressing these issues can help prevent students from dropping out of school.

I would want the younger ones to know that they're never alone and some of these feelings are normal. Even as adults we still deal with them sometimes.

You should:

1. Seek help: Talk to a trusted adult (I genuinely hope you have one)

2. Practice self-care: Engage in activities that bring joy and relaxation, like exercise, reading or meditation.

3. Network with peers: Join a well meaning group or rally around your mates to build relationships, try to keep busy too.

Pleaseeee you (or if you know someone) can always reach out to the foundation if you feel anxious, depressed, overwhelmed or just need someone to talk to.

We can connect you with professionals equipped to assist with these issues.

Stay safe💜🤍💜
